17-yr-old boy assaulted at Vns ghat; Three booked
VARANASI, April 30 -- A 17-year-old boy was allegedly assaulted by a group of individuals who suspected him of molesting a woman after his hand reportedly brushed against her at Dashashwamedh Ghat in Varanasi on Monday evening, police confirmed on Tuesday.
The victim, a resident of the Padav area, had gone to the ghat for a walk, victim's father Mohammad Salim said that his son went to Dashashwamedh Ghat to roam at Ghats. Three persons, including Hanuman Yadav, Sushant and Shivam caught his son and thrashed him, alleged Saleem and filed a complaint against the trio.
An official from the local police station stated that an FIR had been lodged under sections 115(2) and 191(2) (rioting) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) based on the complaint filed by Salim.
Deputy commissioner of police, Kashi Zone, Gaurav Banswal, said, "Rehan was walking at the ghat during the night when his hand unintentionally touched a woman. Believing it to be an act of molestation, a few youths caught and thrashed him.
A case has been registered and legal action is being taken." Rehan's father has demanded strict legal action against the accused and urged the authorities to ensure justice for his son....
