17-year-old boy beats father to death over food shortage at home
LUCKNOW, March 10 -- A 45-year-old man was beaten to death allegedly by his 17-year-old son over constant domestic disputes regarding food shortage at home in the Mohanlalganj area of Lucknow on Monday, police said.
The deceased, a farmer, used to consume intoxicating substances, and to buy them, he would sell the wheat and paddy.
This resulted in a shortage of food in the house and a financial burden on the family.
The accused was later arrested, police added.
The incident occurred around 11:30 am on Monday, in Khujehta village under the Mohanlalganj police station limits.
Additional deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Vasanth Rallapalli said, "Village head Shankar Yadav alerted authorities that Ramkaran Rawat had been attacked by his minor son Lov Kush. When police reached the spot, they found Rawat lying dead outside his house while villagers and family members had gathered there."
According to the police and locals, the accused had been pressuring his father to sell a piece of family land, but Rawat was not willing to do so.
On Sunday morning, the issue resurfaced when Rawat was getting ready to leave the house.
Lov Kush again raised the matter of selling the land, which led to an argument between the two.
Police said Ramkaran Rawat reportedly scolded his son during the heated exchange.
Enraged, the teenager allegedly went inside the house, brought a wooden stick and struck his father on the head. Rawat collapsed and died on the spot, police said.
BK Tripathi, station house officer (SHO), Mohanlalganj, said, "According to Navami Lal (the victim's father), his son used to consume intoxicating substances, and to buy them, he would sell the wheat and paddy. This resulted in a shortage of food in the house and a financial burden on the family."
Ramkaran Rawat's wife also left the house and went to her parental home before the festival of Holi, and has not returned since then, the officer said.
"The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination. Police said a case will be registered after receiving a complaint from the family and teams have been formed to trace the absconding teenager," a press statement by Lucknow police read on Monday....
