PRAYAGRAJ, May 8 -- A 17-year-old boy has been arrested for allegedly murdering his minor girlfriend, and dumping her body near the Sharda Canal under the Baharia police station area of Prayagraj, police said on Thursday. The victim, a 17 year old girl, had been missing since April 20. According to the police, the accused confessed to strangling the girl with a dupatta after stabbing her multiple times with a knife. He then placed the body in a pit near the canal and covered it with bushes in an attempt to hide the crime. The victim's mother filed a kidnapping complaint on April 21 when her daughter did not return home. Police began searching for the pair, tracking their movements by examining CCTV footage, questioning local residents, and tracing their mobile phone locations. These efforts led police to the accused, who was arrested on Thursday morning from a relative's house. During interrogation, the boy confessed to the killing. Based on his information, a police team searched the area and recovered Khushi's decomposed body from bushes near the Sharda Sahayak Canal. The victim's sister told police that she had left home on April 20 for college, but instead went to a relative's house to use their mobile phone to contact the accused. The two spent the day riding around on a motorcycle. Police said the couple, who met on Instagram and were in a romantic relationship, had argued repeatedly over running away from home and getting married. Later that night, the accused allegedly lured the victim into a nearby wooded area at the Sharda Sahayak Canal where he attacked her with a knife before strangling her to death. The victim's mother alleged that the accused picked up her sister from college and fled the spot with her jewelry after the killing. She said the family had only learned of the relationship a month prior and had tried to reason with the boy. The accused is an intermediate student. SHO Baharia Manvendra Singh confirmed that the accused was being questioned and would be sent to jail after completing legal formalities....
