LUCKNOW, May 18 -- A delegation of the 16th Finance Commission will begin a three-day visit to Uttar Pradesh from June 5, with planned visits to key religious sites and development projects in Ayodhya and Varanasi, according to an official spokesperson. The visit will commence in Lucknow, where the delegation is scheduled to meet chief minister Yogi Adityanath on June 5. From there, the team will proceed to Varanasi and Ayodhya to witness firsthand the state's religious infrastructure and review ongoing development initiatives. The spokesperson said that U.P's rich spiritual and cultural heritage is attracting national and international attention. Among the sites that have emerged as focal points of this interest are the Shri Ram Temple in Ayodhya and the Kashi Vishwanath Dham in Varanasi. In Varanasi, the Finance Commission members will take a boat ride along the Ganga and attend the evening Ganga Aarti ceremony. On June 6, the delegation will visit the Shri Kashi Vishwanath Dham and Kaal Bhairav Temple. Apart from religious tourism, the visit will include a review of development schemes under the state and central governments. The Commission will inspect the Panaya Silk unit at Maqbool Alam Road, a flagship enterprise under the One District, One Product (ODOP) initiative.
