Dehradun, Nov. 23 -- Uttarakhand police said on Saturday that the 161 gelatin sticks recovered from near a government school in Almora on Thursday are typically used to break stones in road construction projects, and appealed to the public not to believe in rumours. The principal of Government Higher Secondary School in Dabra on Thursday evening informed the Salt Police Station that children playing near the school had spotted something suspicious in the bushes, senior superintendent of police (SSP) of Almora Devendra Pincha said. A police team reached the spot and secured the area for safety. "A total of 161 gelatin sticks were recovered from the scene," Pincha said. "On Friday, bomb disposal and dog squad teams were called to the spot. Samples were collected," he added. A case was registered against unknown people at the Salt Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act, 1959 on Friday, police said. "A detailed investigation is underway by the police team to determine who brought the gelatin rods to the spot and for what purpose," Pincha said, adding that the gelatin rods are typically used to break stones in road construction projects. In the FIR, additional sub inspector Diwan Singh Bisht stated they received a call from the school principal at around 2.50pm stating that some packets with "explosives" written on it were lying in bushes near the school. Upon reaching the spot, the police found three colour packets on which "901 emulsion explosives 125gm by SBL Energy Limited" was printed. "The plastic packets appear to be suspicious explosive material, and the place was cordoned off. As I informed the senior officers, I was asked to secure the area until a bomb disposal squad reaches the site," Bisht said. On Friday, the bomb disposal squad and dog squad team arrived at the site from Udham Singh Nagar district. "They inspected the site and, using dogs, carried out a search operation during which, about 15-20 feet ahead from where the suspected explosive material was lying earlier, additional similar cylindrical plastic packets were recovered in large numbers at about 12.57pm," he said. "The recovered plastic packets were packed into a plastic sack, tied with a white cloth cord, and sealed," the FIR stated....
