16-yr-old drowns while making reel near water-filled pit
PRAYAGRAJ, June 24 -- A 16-year-old boy drowned on Sunday evening after allegedly slipping into a water-filled pit while making a reel near a stone crusher plant on Bhatauti hill, where he had gone for a picnic with his elder brother and friends, police said on Monday. The deceased, identified as Ajay Chaudhary, a resident of Puranadih village in Kohdar, was visiting Siddheshwarnath Dham along with his brother Sanjay and their friends. After offering prayers, the group proceeded towards the nearby Bhatauti crusher plant, situated about half a kilometre away. While attempting to record a video near a pit dug for stone extraction, Ajay reportedly lost his balance and slipped into the deep, water-filled cavity. His brother Sanjay raised an alarm, drawing the attention of nearby workers. Despite their efforts, the boy could not be rescued in time, police said. Local police from Kohdar station arrived at the scene shortly after being informed.
With assistance from the workers and villagers, the body was eventually retrieved. Police completed the Panchnama and sent the body for postmortem examination.
