16-year-old girl gang raped, two in custody
Lucknow, Nov. 6 -- After a 16-year-old student was allegedly gang raped in the state capital's Sarojini Nagar area, the police have taken two suspects into custody for interrogation, officials said on Wednesday.
While those taken into custody have been identified as Piyush Mishra and Shubham Shukla, Vimal Yadav, the main accused, is still at large.
Assistant commissioner of police (ACP) Krishna Nagar, Rajneesh Verma, confirmed the two were taken into custody and stated that a thorough investigation is underway.
"We have received the complaint and are in the process of gathering all the necessary evidence. The victim will undergo a medical examination to corroborate the allegations," said Sarojini Nagar inspector Rajdev Ram Prajapati.
According to the police report, the student of a private school was befriended by Vimal on Instagram approximately a month-and-a-half ago. The two began allegedly communicating regularly over the phone.
On November 2 night, Vimal allegedly coaxed the girl to meet him at around 10 pm, according to the police.
Along with his accomplices Piyush and Shubham , he took her in an SUV to a hotel on IIM Road in Madiaon, where they sexually assaulted her over two days.
The victim was also physically abused, her mobile phone confiscated and she was locked in the hotel room.
The suspects released the girl near her home on Tuesday afternoon, threatening to put a video of the assault on social media if she reported the incident.
Upon returning home, the girl confided in her mother, who immediately lodged a complaint with the police....
