143 families displaced in Varanasi
VARANASI, July 20 -- With the Ganga continuing to swell in Varanasi, floodwater has affected seven localities, including one village and six mohallas, displacing 143 families to relief camps and safer locations. Of these, 65 families are currently staying in government-run relief camps, while 74 families have relocated to other safe places.
According to reports, Ganga was flowing at 70 metres on Saturday even as the warning level in Varanasi is 70.262 metres.
The district administration said that the flood-affected village is Rampur Dhaba, while mohallas in the city include Salarpur, Saraiya, Nakkhighat, Dhelwariya, Daniyalpur and low-lying areas of Hukulganj.
There are a total of 46 flood relief camps, including 37 in Sadar, three in Pindara, and six in Rajatalab.
Of these, seven flood relief camps are functional in flood affected areas. A total of 582 lunch packets, 65 milk packets, 46 ORS packets and fruits were distributed in these relief camps.
"All basic facilities should be provided to the families living in the flood relief camps so that they do not have to face any problems," Varanasi district magistrate Satyendra Kumar said.
He instructed officials concerned to deploy a team of sanitation workers to ensure proper cleanliness in and around the flood relief camps. Medical teams have been deployed in the camps....
