LUCKNOW, Sept. 18 -- A 14-year-old who allegedly committed suicide after being reprimanded for losing Rs 13 lakh in an online game had been excessively playing it for the last two months, deputy commissioner of police (South) Nipun Agarwal said, citing the ongoing investigation. According to police, the boy had told one of his friends over a phone call that he would play the game again "if he survived". The DCP also urged parents to keep a watch on their children's digital activities. A day ago, police had said that the phone, which the boy used to play the game, was reset hours before his body was found, they said, adding the device no longer carried any call logs, messages, social media accounts or gaming history. According to investigators, the money lost was part of the sum acquired by the father after a land transaction made for medical treatment. When he went to the bank to withdraw the funds last week, the father was shocked to find that his account balance was zero. "Upon confronting his son about the same, the boy admitted to having lost the money in an online game. Family members, including his tuition teacher, counselled him against such behaviour. Later that evening, he was found hanging in his room. He was rushed to a community health centre, where doctors declared him dead," Mohanlalganj ACP Rajneesh Verma had said....
