Varanasi, Dec. 6 -- At least 123 accused have been arrested in Varanasi since the launch of Mission Shakti 5.0, the police said in a press statement. Commissioner of police Mohit Agarwal reviewed the functioning of Mission Shakti centres at various police stations. During the review, officers informed him that 94 cases had been registered and 123 accused had been taken into custody. Preventive action was also taken against 659 miscreants under sections 126, 135 and 170 of the BNSS. As part of the public awareness drive, around 90,000 women, students and others were informed about safety measures at 2,114 locations. The commissioner instructed officers to strengthen the work of anti-Romeo teams by improving patrolling in sensitive areas and identifying hotspots. He also ordered that crimes against women be disposed of quickly, with a target of 100% disposal.
