PRAYAGRAJ, Sept. 15 -- A record-breaking 12,36,238 candidates have applied for 7,466 LT Grade (Assistant Teacher) vacant posts on offer in government-run secondary schools of the state. This translates to an average of 166 applicants vying for each position. This recruitment drive by Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC), taking place after a gap of seven years, has shattered previous records in terms of applicant numbers, shared officials. Compared to the 2018 recruitment, the number of vacancies has decreased by 3,302, but the number of applicants has risen by 4,72,921. In 2018, 7,63,317 candidates had applied for 10,768 posts. The current recruitment has generated significant enthusiasm among trained unemployed youth, officials said. Even before online applications officially began on July 28, candidates had started completing their One-Time Registration (OTR) on the commission's website. The brief recruitment notification was released on July 14, and by that date, about 21.75 lakh OTRs had already been completed. By the application deadline of August 28, the number of OTRs had surged to 30,44,551, amounting to nearly 8.69 lakh new candidates registering within just one month. Meanwhile, from August 12, the online application process also began for 1,516 posts, including 1,471 lecturer posts in Government Inter Colleges, 43 posts in lecturer (visually impaired) category in Government Inter Colleges /Composite Special Secondary Schools and 2 posts for Faculty at the Uttar Pradesh Jail Training School (Teaching Cadre). This LT Grade recruitment has now set the record for the highest number of applications ever received for a single recruitment drive conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC). The previous record was held by the Review Officer/Assistant Review Officer (RO/ARO) Recruitment 2023, which saw 10,76,004 applicants.
