12-year-old killed in suspected crocodile attack in haridwar: cops
Haridwar, May 2 -- A 12-year-old boy was killed in a suspected crocodile attack near a seasonal rivulet in the rocky terrain of the Buggawala area near Roorkee on Friday, officials said.
According to police, the deceased, Raja (12), a resident of Banjarewala village, had gone with his friends on Thursday evening on bicycles to the rivulet for bathing and sightseeing when the incident occurred.
When the child did not return home, his family members informed the police control room late on Thursday evening. A police team was immediately dispatched and a search operation was launched. However, the search faced difficulties due to darkness. On Friday morning, the search operation was resumed and the police team located the missing child near the rivulet. In- charge, Buggawala police station, Ankur Sharma said that the police first spotted the child's bicycle near the rivulet and later recovered his body from the nearby area.
"The body bore severe injuries and it appears that the child was likely caught and dragged by a crocodile. Local villagers also indicated the possible presence of crocodiles in the rivulet and nearby water-filled pits," Sharma said.
The body has been sent for postmortem examination and further investigation is underway, he added....
