Meerut, May 22 -- Five minors allegedly drugged and gangraped a 12-year-old girl inside a public school, recording the heinous act and threatening to make it viral, in Moradabad. The crime, which took place on May 8, came to light after a video of the assault surfaced, prompting the victim's mother to file a case against the perpetrators. The five accused were arrested on Tuesday, police said. According to the police, the victim, a Class 8 student, was playing outside her house in Civil Lines on the evening of May 8, when the five boys, all from the same neighborhood, approached her. Under the pretext of buying her food and drinks from a nearby shop, they lured her to a local public school. The group gained entry by unlocking the school, with keys which one of the accused, the son of a Class IV school employee, had stolen from his father. Inside the school, the boys gave the girl a cold drink laced with an intoxicant, causing her to lose consciousness. The five minors allegedly took turns raping her in the principal's office. Three of them recorded the assault on their mobile phones. The crime remained hidden until May 19, when a neighbour obtained the video of the assault and showed it to the victim's mother. Devastated by the revelation, the mother confronted her daughter, who broke down and recounted the traumatic experience. The mother promptly approached the Civil Lines police station and filed a complaint. The police registered a case against the five minors under charges of gang rape, criminal intimidation, and violations of the POCSO Act. The police arrested all five minors from their houses, and during interrogation, the boys confessed to the crime. They claimed the act was not premeditated and admitted to deleting the video from their phones to destroy evidence. The accused include a high school student, two Class 8 students, a Class 7 student, and the son of a Class IV school employee who had studied only up to Class 2....
