12-year-old boy dies by suicide after he accidentally damages grandpa's moped
LUCKNOW, Nov. 7 -- What should have been a birthday celebration turned into a funeral in a village on the outskirts of the city. A 12-year-old Class 7 student died by suicide a day before his birthday, and on Wednesday, instead of lighting candles on a cake, his mother lit his pyre.
According to police and local residents, the child was deeply upset after accidentally damaging a relative's moped earlier in the day. Investigators believe the fear of being scolded by his mother or grandfather may have driven him to take the extreme step.
The incident occurred in Nigoha. The boy's mother, a widow and daily-wage worker, had already bought new clothes to mark his birthday. When she returned home on Tuesday evening and found their room locked from inside, neighbours broke the door open - and discovered the child's body hanging. Family acquaintances said the boy's grandfather had come in the morning on a moped before leaving for a court hearing. In his absence, the child attempted to ride the vehicle. He reportedly lost control and struck an electric pole, damaging parts of it. Terrified, he skipped school and spent the day silent and withdrawn, villagers said. By evening, he was found dead.
