12 girls from humble backgrounds crack NEET
Lucknow, June 18 -- Twelve young women who are enrolled in Sarvodaya Vidyalaya in Mirzapur's Marihan have succeeded in cracking NEET (UG), one of India's toughest entrance exams. Hailing from marginalised communities, these youngsters have turned their dreams into reality by leveraging the transparent support system provided by the UP government, a government spokesperson said.
Shweta Pal is one of the 12 girls who broke the shackles and is all set to become a doctor in a few years. From Kaushambi, Shweta is the eldest of four siblings. Her father, Hiralal Pal, sells seat covers for bikes for a living. Pooja Ranjan from Sonbhadra, the youngest of three siblings, has a similar inspiring story. Her father, Ramesh Kumar, is a farmer.
Princi studied in Kaushambi's Sarvodaya Vidyalaya till Class 10 before taking a transfer to the Marihan school in Class 11. Her father, Rajesh Kumar, is a daily wage worker. Lakshmi from Ambedkar Nagar also credited her success to the government initiative. Another student from Ambedkar Nagar, Deepti Gupta praised the UP government.
Other successful students include Komal Kumari, Malti, Anuradha, Sabhya Prajapati, and Pooja Sonkar, all of whom overcame social and economic barriers to begin their journey toward becoming doctors. These girls, who come from remote areas of Uttar Pradesh, are scripting their owb success stories.
Minister of State for Social Welfare (independent charge) Aseem Arun congratulated the students: "This success is a symbol of the empowerment of girls from marginalised communities. I wish them a bright future."
Social Welfare Department director Kumar Prashant said Madihan's Sarvodaya Vidyalaya has been developed as a centre of excellence. With support from Ex-Navodayan Foundation and Tata AIG, 39 girls were given free coaching for JEE and NEET. Out of them, 25 appeared for NEET, and 12 cleared it. Currently, 100 Sarvodaya Vidyalayas are operational across the state, offering free education and coaching from Classes 6 to 12 for children from economically weaker families....
