12 externed in 13 days, two dozen this year
PRAYAGRAJ, Dec. 20 -- The Prayagraj Police have intensified action against habitual offenders. Acting on the orders of the additional police commissioner, 12 notorious criminals have been externed from the district in the last 13 days. These criminals are accused of serious offences including robbery, dacoity, extortion and even firing at police personnel, officials said.
According to police officials, the action has been taken to strengthen law and order and to restore a sense of security among the public. The externed criminals were under police surveillance for a long time and multiple criminal cases were registered against them at various police stations.
So far this year, orders have been issued to extern a total of 24 criminals from the district. Most of them are habitual offenders whose activities had created an atmosphere of fear in the area.
Additional police commissioner Ajaypal Sharma said that a zero-tolerance policy is being followed against crime and criminals.
On Friday also, the court of the additional police commissioner, under the Gangsters and Goonda Control Act, ordered the externment of two criminals from the district for a period of six months.
