LUCKNOW, Sept. 20 -- Madiaon police on Thursday night arrested 12 people for gambling on card games, and recovered Rs 89,000 in cash, 52 playing cards and two new decks of cards from their possession. The action was taken after police received a tip-off from an informer about illegal betting activities in Krishna Colony behind City Life Hospital in Raipur area in state capital, stated in the FIR on Friday. Police said a surveillance team rushed to the spot and found the men gambling on a vacant plot. Acting swiftly, the team surrounded the area and caught all 12 accused red-handed. The arrested men were later booked under FIR at Madiyaon police station under Section 13 of the Gambling Act. The accused were identified as Abhishek Soni, 28, Aziz, 46, Ikraar, 44, Mohd Ahmed, 50, Awadhesh Kumar, 35, Mohd Arshad, 36, Sandeep, 23, and others belonging to different localities of Lucknow, Sitapur, and Barabanki. Police confirmed that all 12 men were informed about their offence before being taken into custody at 11:55 pm on Thursday.
