11-year-old boy drowns in river in U.S. nagar
Rudrapur, Aug. 4 -- An 11-year-old boy drowned in the swollen Lebda river in Bazpur, located in Udham Singh Nagar district, on Sunday morning, officials said. The river had surged following heavy overnight rainfall, prompting emergency response teams to launch flood rescue operations across affected areas.
According to officials, the victim, identified as Yash, a resident of Khamaria village in Bazpur, had gone to observe the rising waters of the Lebda river along with other children around 11 am when he accidentally slipped and fell into the fast-moving current. His body was later recovered near the Taat Wale Baba temple downstream.
Local residents immediately rushed the unconscious boy to the government hospital, but doctors declared him brought dead.
The incident occurred amid rising concerns over flooding in Bazpur, as the Lebda river breached its normal course due to incessant rains. Floodwaters entered several low-lying areas including Indira Colony and Chakarpur village, disrupting daily life and prompting relief efforts.
A team of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) from Gadarpur and personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) stationed in Rudrapur were dispatched to the affected zones....
