LUCKNOW/JHANSI, Oct. 23 -- Emphasising a strict "zero tolerance" policy towards corruption, UP director general of police Rajeev Krishna suspended 11 police personnel for allegedly extorting money from truck drivers for allowing their overloaded vehicles to pass through. The action came after a video that surfaced on social media purportedly showing cops in Chitrakoot, Banda and Kaushambi accepting bribes from truck drivers. The sting operation was conducted by a digital news channel, after which the videos reportedly went viral on social media. Those suspended included one inspector, two sub-inspectors (including one female S-I), another sub-inspector and three constables from Chitrakoot, one SHO and a constable from Banda and one SHO and a constable from Kaushambi, stated an official release shared by the police.
