LUCKNOW, Aug. 1 -- The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) on Thursday announced a 10% rebate on house tax for residential property owners who pay their user charge by August 31. The scheme, aimed at boosting timely tax collection and strengthening the city's cleanliness system, is being offered as a final opportunity under this financial year's benefit plan. Commercial property owners will also receive a 5% discount on property tax, applicable on both online and offline payments. The decision follows a letter from mayor Sushma Kharakwal to the municipal commissioner, requesting a special rebate scheme to encourage public participation in civic upkeep. LMC officials said the scheme is part of a broader drive to enhance revenue and improve core municipal services such as door-to-door garbage collection, sanitation, and waste disposal. According to the LMC, a similar scheme implemented in July offering a 10% rebate on online tax payments received an overwhelming response from citizens, resulting in a marked improvement in revenue collection. Encouraged by this, LMC has now introduced this extended rebate offer with new conditions. To ensure transparency, the mayor directed residents to keep receipts of their user charge payments on their phones and present them to LMC supervisors if asked. Citizens facing unauthorised demands for extra charges can register complaints via the Mayor's helpline number 6389200005....
