Kanpur, Nov. 8 -- As part of the ongoing voter list revision drive ahead of the 2026 three-tier panchayat elections, the authorities in Kanpur have identified and removed over one lakh duplicate and deceased voters from the rolls. According to officials, a total of 1,07,818 names found to be either duplicate or belonging to deceased persons have been deleted, while 1,78,299 new voters have been added so far. The revision exercise is being carried out on the directions of the State Election Commission, which has instructed all districts to update their voter lists in preparation for the upcoming rural polls. Booth level officers (BLOs) across all blocks in Kanpur are conducting door-to-door verification to ensure accuracy. During the three-month-long verification process, details of more than 3.10 lakh voters were cross-checked. Of these, 2.98 lakh entries were verified through the E-Mobile App, while 12,556 were checked offline. Officials also found 24,625 voters whose names or addresses were incorrectly recorded; the discrepancies have since been corrected. "The voter roll revision is still under way.
