1 car, 20 mins, 12 km: 3 dead, 2 critical in UP
Meerut, Feb. 17 -- Three people were killed and two others critically injured after an unidentified speeding vehicle allegedly ploughed into multiple victims across a 12-km stretch within nearly 20 minutes late on Sunday in Badaun district of Uttar Pradesh, police said on Monday.
According to witnesses, a white Mahindra Bolero was traveling at an estimated speed of over 100 kmph when the chain of incidents began around 5 pm near Bahedi Mod and continued up to Roshan Nagar Mod on the Budaun-Bijnor Highway.
The first collision happened when the SUV rammed a motorcycle from behind, killing 25-year-old Mukesh Kumar, a resident of Kartauli village in Bareilly, on the spot. His brother-in-law, Madanlal (50), sustained serious injuries. His brother-in-law Madanlal, 50, a resident of Bilsi, sustained serious injuries. Madanlal, currently undergoing treatment for fractures and head injuries, recounted the horror. "We were riding towards Ismailpur to visit relatives when the vehicle struck us. The force threw us onto the road; the driver didn't even slow down before fleeing." According to people aware of the matter, while escaping the first crash site, the driver allegedly ran over 20-year-old Vishal Singh of Laua village, who later succumbed to his injuries. Despite an area-wide alert prompted by local witnesses, the driver reportedly changed routes and continued his reckless flight.
Roughly 20 minutes after the first collision, the vehicle struck another motorcycle near the Roshan Nagar turn, approximately 12 km away. In this final impact, 55-year-old Badlu was killed on the spot, while his companion, Shan Mohammad, was left in critical condition. Deputy Superintendent of Police Devendra Kumar confirmed the three fatalities. "We are currently investigating whether the same vehicle was responsible for all three crashes," Kumar said. "We are scanning CCTV footage from nearby areas to identify the vehicle and the driver. Efforts are underway to arrest the accused."...
