Meerut, Nov. 23 -- In an action to ensure accountability during the Election Commission's ongoing special revision programme, the Rampur district administration has taken action against five Booth Level Officers (BLOs) for negligence. One BLO has been suspended, while the honorarium of four others has been withheld after they allegedly failed to promptly submit voter enumeration forms and displayed laxity in their duties. The action comes at a time when the district is witnessing a sluggish response from voters in filling and submitting voter enumeration forms. Officials noted that BLOs too were not discharging responsibilities with the seriousness expected in such a crucial exercise. The administration has urged voters to submit their forms within the stipulated deadline. District election officer Ajay Dwivedi confirmed the action and disclosed the names of the officials penalised. The suspended BLO has been identified as Shuaib Khan of Booth 95 in Bilaspur, who is posted as a canal inspector (Seenchpal) at the Bilaspur BDO office. The four BLOs whose honorariums have been withheld are: Shamsad Ali, a shiksha-mitra at Primary School Alinagar Jagir (Booth 105, Swar); Shazia, an anganwadi worker from Saijni Nankar (Booth 250, Chamraua); Sunita Rawat, an anganwadi worker from Sunder Lal Inter College Kooncha Langar Khana Gali Centre (Booth 115, Rampur); and Hari Shankar, a shiksha-mitra from Composite Upper Primary School Patwai (Booth 110, Milak). Officials said the disciplinary measures were taken due to consistent negligence towards assigned duties. The district election officer warned that any officer found neglecting responsibilities in future would face strict action, including suspension. This is not the first instance of such disciplinary steps. Earlier, a headmaster and two teachers were suspended for failing to collect BLO duty materials. In addition, salaries of two block development officers and three block education officers had also been withheld for similar lapses....
