'Viral gondola swing video shows planned safety sway test'
VARANASI, Jan. 7 -- Divisional commissioner S Rajalingam called a video clip, which has gone viral on social media showing a gondola swinging on the ropeway like a pendulum, misleading. He stated that the sway testing of the ropeway cabins is currently underway. The footage related to the Varanasi ropeway being circulated on social media is being presented out of context and is creating confusion, Rajalingam said.
"A misleading tweet related to the ropeway has been going viral on social media since morning. I would like to make it clear that Gondola testing is currently underway. Two types of tests are performed. One is load testing, performed to examine the gondola's load capacity. Additionally, a sway test is also performed to examine its sway level during strong winds, to ensure it complies with international safety standards. The sway test is currently underway. During the test, the gondola is made to swing artificially by using brakes to determine how many degrees the cable car swings during strong winds and whether it is as per safety standards," said the divisional commissioner. htc...
