'VAT rates on petrol, diesel lowest in UP'
LUCKNOW, Oct. 15 -- Finance minister Suresh Kumar Khanna on Tuesday said that implementing the "One Nation, One Tax" system was a long-standing demand of India's trader community and Prime Minister Narendra Modi made it possible through determination and courage.
Khanna said the Centre respects the opinions of all state governments and takes decisions through consensus. He noted that PM Modi raised the income tax exemption limit to Rs 12 lakh, giving immense relief to the middle class. He said Uttar Pradesh has the lowest VAT rates in the country on diesel, petrol, gold, diamonds, and affordable housing.
He was speaking at the "Next Generation GST Reforms Conclave" organised by BJP MLA Rajeshwar Singh at a city hotel. In his address, MLA Rajeshwar Singh praised the vision of the UP finance minister who presented a budget exceeding Rs 8 lakh crore, demonstrating how vision and fiscal responsibility can coexist.
Singh described traders as the "Silent Economic Army of the Nation", the driving force behind India's emergence as the fourth-largest economy in the world. On the occasion, he felicitated representatives of several traders' organisations.
