Lucknow, July 30 -- As part of an ongoing audit of government school buildings, officials on Tuesday visited the Pre-Primary School in Mahipatmau, Kakori, where classes were being held under a plastic shed to shield students from rain. During the visit, the district magistrate Vishakh G immediately directed the executive engineer of the rural engineering services (RES) to assess the condition of the dilapidated school building and submit a detailed report. He instructed both the basic education officer (BEO) and the RES engineer to initiate the auction and demolition of the unsafe structure so that construction of new classrooms can begin without delay. The DM also approved funding under the 'Critical Gap' scheme for the construction of two new classrooms where teaching was being conducted under the temporary shed. He instructed the RES engineer to prepare and submit a cost estimate. Emphasising student safety, the DM ordered that no teaching should take place in unsafe or dilapidated buildings under any circumstances. He warned that if such violations are found, the concerned Block Education Officer would be held accountable. He further directed the BEO and the district school inspector to have all school buildings in their jurisdictions inspected by a technical committee, with a report on the structural safety-particularly the roofs-submitted promptly....
