'Stress and lack of sleep quietly harming mental health'
LUCKNOW, April 19 -- Stress and an unhealthy daily routine are quietly harming people's mental health, leading to problems like anxiety, depression, irritability and poor concentration, neurologist Dr Dhawal Narang said on Saturday.
Speaking at a workshop held at the Institution of Engineers (India) auditorium in River Bank Colony, Narang explained that lack of sleep, heavy workload, and constant mental pressure affect how the brain functions. He warned, "If stress continues for a long time, it can disturb the brain's balance and weaken overall mental health."
Narang stressed that simple lifestyle changes can make a significant difference.
He listed eating healthy food, exercising regularly, getting enough sleep, and learning stress management as key to staying mentally fit. "If you ignore the early signs, the condition can become serious," he cautioned.
He also pointed out that many people take stress lightly, which can be risky and may turn into serious mental health disorders over time. "Mental health should be given the same importance as physical health," he stated, urging people to adopt a balanced routine for a healthier life.
