'Stress, inactivity driving heart attacks in young'
Lucknow, Sept. 8 -- Cardiac arrest is now more common among individuals under 40 years than it ever was. But what causes it?
It may be a combination of factors that include sedentary lifestyle, obesity, stress or even tobacco use.
Several times, underlying conditions such as diabetes, hypertension and high cholesterol also trigger cardiac emergencies, doctors argued at a conclave organised by Medanta Lucknow here.
In a video message. Dr Naresh Trehan, the chairman and managing director of Medanta Group of Hospitals, said heart attack was once thought to be a condition only affecting people aged 55 years and above, but that was no longer the case.
Experts said over the last two decades, the number of adults below 40 years suffering from heart attacks has increased.
"Every fifth patient who suffers a heart attack is now below the age of 40 years. According to the World Health Organization, an estimated 19.8 million people died from cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) in 2022," they added....
