'Seal properly': HC orders safe custody of plea records against Rahul
LUCKNOW, May 8 -- The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court on Wednesday directed that the paper-book of a plea alleging disproportionate assets against former Congress president and current Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, be sealed and kept in safe custody.
"After hearing the petitioner at some length and his contentions, we find it appropriate that this paper-book shall be kept in the safe custody by the Senior Registrar of this Court and it shall be sealed properly," the court said, adding that the seal would be opened by the Bench Secretary on the next date of hearing.
The order was passed by a division bench of Justice Rajesh Singh Chauhan and Justice Zafeer Ahmad on May 6 on a criminal petition seeking a detailed probe and registration of a regular case by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into alleged disproportionate assets against Gandhi, MP from Rae Bareli.
The plea was filed by Karnataka-based BJP worker S Vignesh Shishir, who also named the CBI, Enforcement Directorate, Income Tax Department, Ministry of Home Affairs and Serious Fraud Investigation Office as respondents.
The petitioner also sought directions to preserve the writ petition records in safe custody. The matter has been listed for hearing on May 12 at 2.15 pm.
