'Scolded' by mother, 17-yr-old dies by suicide
PRAYAGRAJ, May 12 -- A 17-year-old girl allegedly died by suicide after her mother reprimanded her for staying out late, in Pratapgarh district on Sunday, police said.
The adolescent returned home around 10 pm of the previous night after attending a birthday party, they said, adding her mother noticed her missing around 1 am. She came back home again around 6 am, after which the mother scolded her and enquired about where she was throughout the night.
A while later, she was found in an unconscious state in her room after which she was rushed to the community health centre in Kohraur where doctors told the family that the girl was in a serious health condition. The girl was referred to the Pratapgarh medical college and then to the Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital in Prayagraj. She died on the way to Prayagraj.
Kohraur SHO Dhananjay Rai said no complaint about the incident had been received in writing. When the police went on information, it was found that the girl's family had taken her to Prayagraj. If any complaint is received, action will be taken after investigation.
An 80-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by one of her relatives, who allegedly sat next to her for several minutes after slitting her throat, in Prayagraj's Soran on Sunday, police said. The attacker, identified as Keshav Kumar Vishwakarma who works as a carpenter, had been arrested and the body of Saryu Devi was sent for postmortem....
