LUCKNOW, July 30 -- The departments of paediatrics and community medicine at Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS), Lucknow, organised a public health awareness programme at Ram Sagar Mishra memorial hospital (RPGMCSRH), the Gynaecology wing of RMLIMS, to mark World ORS Day (July 29). The theme was "ORS - A Simple Solution for a Healthier Future." The event aimed to raise awareness about the life-saving benefits of oral rehydration solution (ORS) in preventing dehydration and reducing childhood mortality due to diarrheal diseases, according to a press release issued to the media on Tuesday. The programme commenced with a welcome address by Prof Deepti Agarwal, head of the department of paediatrics, followed by a lamp-lighting ceremony by dignitaries. Dr Piyush Upadhyay, organising secretary and Prof Jr Grade from the department of paediatrics, a paediatric hepatologist and gastroenterologist, briefed the public on the significance of ORS Day, emphasising its broad utility and effectiveness, the release stated. A nukkad natak performed by MBBS students highlighted the importance of ORS in an engaging and relatable manner. This was followed by an interactive awareness quiz conducted by Dr Sarah Maimoon Usmani, senior resident, department of community medicine. The programme was anchored by Dr Shalini Verma, assistant professor in the department of paediatrics.
