Lucknow, Jan. 6 -- The Uttar Pradesh Vidyut Karmchari Sanyukt Sangharsh Samiti has announced that nearly 27 lakh power employees across the country will observe a day-long strike on February 12 in protest against the Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2025, and the ongoing power privatisation process in Uttar Pradesh. The Samiti said the formal announcement of the nationwide strike will be made at the national conference of 10 central trade unions in New Delhi on January 9. "Apart from opposing power privatisation, key demands include withdrawal of labour codes, regularisation of contractual workers, restoration of the old pension scheme, and opposition to privatisation of public sector undertakings," Samiti convenor Shailendra Dubey said here on Monday. The UP power privatisation drive, he said, had emerged as a matter of national concern, with power employees across India expressing solidarity with their counterparts in the state.
