Jhansi, Nov. 10 -- A 23-year-old woman, said to be a national-level hockey player, and sports teacher at Lucknow Public School (LPS), was killed in a tragic road accident early Sunday when a truck carrying gas cylinders ran over her in the Para area of the city.
"The deceased, identified as Julie Yadav, was on her way to LPS, LDA Colony Sector-I, where an inter-school badminton championship was being held. According to police, Julie had reached the school in the morning but realised she had forgotten her mobile phone at home. She decided to return to fetch it when the accident occurred near the Mauda crossing around 6.20am," read a press statement from Lucknow police.
Police said a speeding unidentified DCM truck loaded with gas cylinders hit her motorcycle from the front, throwing her onto the road. The truck driver fled the scene immediately after the incident.

She was also the in-charge of Saturday's inter-school badminton championship involving eight LPS branches. "She was extremely dedicated and responsible. The entire school community is in shock," said a school staff of the LPS branch.
Her father Ajay Yadav is a farmer, while her mother Guddi Devi is a homemaker. Her younger brother, Aman, is a student. The news of her death left the family inconsolable, with relatives and neighbours gathering at their home in mourning. "Julie was bright, disciplined, and always helpful. We can't believe she is gone," said a relative.
