'Mastermind' of LDA plot scam arrested, one accused still at large
LUCKNOW, May 4 -- Sushil Mishra, the alleged mastermind behind a large-scale Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) plot forgery racket, was arrested by the special task force and Gomti Nagar police on Friday night.
Mishra had been absconding since March after allegedly duping dozens of people by selling forged registries of LDA plots. His arrest marks the seventh in the case, which involves multiple FIRs and fraudulent land deals across prime city sectors, police said on Saturday.
Police said Mishra, 28, a resident of Vinamra Khand in Vibhuti Khand, was tracked down near DayalParadise Square in Gomti Nagar after a tip-off. Officials described him as a key figure in the racket, responsible for targeting prospective buyers and persuading them with fake LDA allotment documents.
"With this arrest, seven of the eight accused named in the FIR have now been apprehended.
Only Avnish Singh alias Sinku Singh remains at large," said a police official.
The FIR, lodged by STF inspector Hemant Bhushan on March 28 at Gomti Nagar police station, had named a total of eight accused. Earlier, police had arrested Rahul Singh, Mukesh Maurya alias Rangi, Dhananjay Singh, Sachin Singh alias Amar Singh Rathore, Achleshwar alias Bablu Gupta, and Ram Bahadur Singh.
The scam first came to light on March 27 when the STF apprehended six accused and recovered 23 fake registries, two cars, nine mobile phones, a computer system, and multiple bank documents.
The investigation revealed that the gang had allegedly sold between 70 to 80 plots using forged papers.
"The gang operated in a structured manner with Mishra directly handling the victims and presenting official-looking documents to win their confidence," according to Gomti Nagar station house officer (SHO) Rajesh Kumar Tripathi, who led the arrest operation.
Following the initial arrests, the LDA began a verification drive and identified 39 plots in areas including Vibhuti Khand, Vinamra Khand, Virat Khand, Vijay Khand, and Vivek Khand that had been fraudulently sold.
Officials also conducted on-site inspections and photographed developments to assess current activity on the disputed plots.
Police said Mishra has a criminal record, with three FIRs already registered against him at Gomti Nagar police station.
He has been booked under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for charges related to cheating, forgery, criminal intimidation, and criminal conspiracy....
