'Liquor shops along Kanwar route to be covered in Haridwar'

Haridwar, July 9 -- In a bid to protect the religious sentiments of Lord Shiva devotees-Kanwariyas-undertaking the annual monsoonal Kanwar Yatra, the district excise department in Haridwar has announced that liquor shops along the pilgrimage route will be visually covered from the outside. Excise officials said move is intended to prevent any discomfort or offence to devotees. "From July 10, a day before the Kanwar Yatra begins, all government-authorised liquor shops along pilgrimage routes in Haridwar will be covered, including signboards," said District Excise Officer Kailash Bainjwal. htc...
