'Law, order spurs UP's big leap post 2017'
Lucknow, Aug. 15 -- After 2017, there has been a significant change in the government's thinking and approach along with infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh, chief minister Yogi Adityanath said in the state legislative council on Thursday. He was taking part in a marathon discussion on 'Developed India-Developed Uttar Pradesh'. Despite huge potential, due to policy indifference, UP continued to lag behind before 2017, he said.
"Now, UP is known for good governance, better law and order, peace and stability," Adityanath said.
Uttar Pradesh has taken a long leap in GSDP from 2017 to 2025, he said.
"In 2016-17, UP's GSDP was Rs 13 lakh crore, which is going to increase to Rs 35 lakh crore by the end of this financial year. UP's contribution to GDP was only 8% , which will increase to 10% by the end of this financial year. It will reach 9.5%. Per capita income was Rs 43,000 in 2016-17, it will increase to Rs 1.20 lakh by the end of this financial year."
In the last eight years, 6 crore people in the state have been freed from poverty, he said. He presented the figures of reduction in crime rate till July 15, 2025 as compared to 2016. He said there has been a 94% reduction in robbery, 82% in loot, 47% in murder, 50% in kidnapping,16% in dowry murder and 50% in rape cases.
Meanwhile, four bills were passed by voice vote in the Council. These are: the Uttar Pradesh Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management (Amendment) Bill, 2025, Uttar Pradesh Shri Banke Bihari Ji Temple Trust Bill, 2025, Uttar Pradesh State Public Service Commission (Regulation of Procedure) (Amendment) Bill, 2025 and Uttar Pradesh State Legislature Members and Ministers Suk Suvidha Vidhan (Amendment) Bill, 2025.
