'Kavach' to be installed in NER sections
GORAKHPUR, Aug. 1 -- Indian Railways has approved the installation of the indigenously developed automatic train protection (ATP) system, Kavach, across 1,441 kilometers of railway track in the North Eastern Railway (NER) zone at an estimated cost of Rs.492.21 crore.
The prioritised installation will cover key railway sections in the Lucknow, Varanasi, and Izzatnagar divisions.
Chief public relations officer, NER, Pankaj Kumar Singh, confirmed that in the Lucknow division, the system will be installed on tracks between Lucknow Junction to Malhour, Manaknagar, Barabanki to Burhwal, Sitapur to Barabanki, and Burhwal to Gorakhpur.
Similarly, in the Varanasi division, Kavach will be implemented between Gorakhpur Cantt to Goldinganj and Valmikinagar, as well as Bhatni to Varanasi, Varanasi to Prayagraj, and Aunrihar to Chhapra. The Izzatnagar division will see installation on tracks between Rawatpur to Farrukhabad Junction, Farrukhabad to Kasganj, and Kasganj to Mathura.
Singh highlighted that work under Phase-1 has already commenced over 558 route kilometers, including segments such as Sitapur City to Burhwal, Budhwal to Gorakhpur, Manaknagar to Lucknow, Malhour, Barabanki to Burhwal, and Gorakhpur Cantt to Goldinganj.
Tower installation is currently underway on the Chhapra-Barabanki main route, and the tendering process has been initiated for the Gorakhpur Cantt-Chhapra Gramin section....
