LUCKNOW, Sept. 18 -- Roshan Jacob was given a warm send-off by her colleagues and staff upon leaving office on Wednesday, following her transfer to the position of secretary and commissioner of the food safety and drug administration department. Jacob was appointed as divisional commissioner, Lucknow, on June 25, 2022 and continued till September 16, 2025. She held the office for over three years, the second longest tenure after Prashant Trivedi who was divisional commissioner for close to four years starting from October 14, 2008 to June 9, 2012. On Tuesday evening, Vijay Vishwas Pant was appointed the new divisional commissioner of Lucknow, replacing Roshan Jacob, who has been shifted as secretary and commissioner of the food safety and drug administration department. Pant is likely to take charge on Saturday. During her stint as divisional commissioner, Jacob carried herself with grace, took responsibility on her shoulders when there was a crisis. She was responsible for the revival of Butler Palace, its illumination and the Butler Palace pond, which had lost its sheen due to negligence over a long period of time. On September 16, 2022, when Lucknow received a record 160.1 mm rainfall in 24 hours that claimed lives of nine people in Dilkusha Colony and Lucknow was waterlogged all around, Jacob was out on the field with the then municipal commissioner Inderjeet Singh at 5am. She visited Jankipuram, Munshipulia and pumping stations to see if pumps were functioning or not. A photo of her in knee-deep water under an umbrella went viral on social media catching people's attention and applause alike. Citizens hailed Jacob for checking the ground reality. On Tuesday too, when a tree fell at Qaiserbagh fish market, Jacob reached there and went through the lanes to supervise the area. She also worked hard to eradicate child beggary and engaged parents of such children in some work so that they could generate regular income. "The affection of the people of Lucknow will remain a priceless memory for me," said outgoing divisional commissioner Roshan Jacob who was given a farewell upon leaving office. Senior officials from various departments, public representatives and dignitaries attended the function and gave her a warm send-off. "Jacob's tenure was inspiring and exemplary. She established transparency in development work, took prompt decisions in public interest and simplified administrative processes. Under her leadership, numerous schemes and projects in Lucknow division gained momentum, directly benefiting the public," said speakers in their addresses. Everyone commended her outstanding contributions and public-friendly approach, wishing her a bright future. In her emotional address, Roshan Jacob expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the citizens of Lucknow division and administrative officials. She said that her time here will always be etched in her life's most precious memories. Jacob said it was a privilege to have the opportunity to serve the people of Lucknow and the division.
