'India will have own space station by 2035'
LUCKNOW, Aug. 26 -- India will have its own space station by 2035, said Indian Space research Organisation (ISRO) chairman V Narayanan while addressing a felicitation function organised to welcome Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla at Lok Bhavan.
"We are working towards an Indian space station and we are going to build our own space station following which we have to achieve crewed lunar landing by 2040," he added.
On the Axiom 4 Mission, Narayanan said, "Originally the mission was to start on June 11 and when I woke up on June 10, I got the news about an oxygen leak in the main line and we contacted the US team that was working on the launch."
"Based on the letter from the Indian government, the mission was called off that day. The entire thing based on our insistence was corrected and rocket lifted off on June 25. Without that correction, it would have been a catastrophic failure. So, I salute Indian education system knowledge to ensure the safety of our own citizens," the ISRO chairman said.
"We look at UP how the CM is governing and taking it to greater heights. We have to also thank PM Narendra Modi-one of the greatest sons of the country. On August 15 in 2018, he announced the human space flight programme and we were given direction to take India to space by our own rocket. A lot has to take place for that. One of the important things is interfacing human being with the hardware and software," he added.
"The PM in 2023 declared four astronauts for Gaganyaan and he said one Gaganyatri should be sent to the International Space Station. It is under his vision that this activity was executed. Shukla was sent to space and brought back safely. We are very proud," Narayanan said.
Connecting the popularity of space programmes with cricket, he said, "There was a time when we won a cricket match, the entire country used to get united but today when Chandrayaan-3 successfully landed on the south pole of the moon...entire country got united."
"ISRO has a great role in this successful mission. Also, it played a vital role in Operation Sindoor..." he added....
