'Illegal shops around shrine to be removed'
Haridwar, Aug. 27 -- In the wake of the July 27 stampede at Mata Mansa Devi shrine, the district administration has decided to remove all illegal shops and temporary structures from in and around the Mata Chandi Devi shrine, officials said on Tuesday.
Last week, district magistrate Mayur Dixit inspected the Chandi Devi shrine, which draws lakhs of devotees annually, and found several encroachments on the premises. Taking cognisance of the issue, Dixit directed forest department officials to initiate strict action against violators and clear the shrine area of illegal establishments.
"All illegal shops are to be removed. Notices have already been served, and the Badrinath Kedarnath Temple Committee receiver has been directed to ensure proper management, cleanliness, and other related arrangements," said DM Dixit.
Temple priest Mahant Bhawani Nandan welcomed the move, stating that the temple authorities were fully cooperating with the administration to ensure better management of the shrine....
