'Hypnotise Gang' from Punjab busted; 4, including minor, held
LUCKNOW, April 29 -- The Mahanagar police on Monday busted a four-member gang, including a minor, involved in duping people, employing hypnotism, police said. The accused, originally from Punjab, had been living in Lucknow for some time and had been targeting unsuspecting victims across the city.
According to DCP, crime, Kamlesh Kumar Dixit, gang members would roam around disguised as 'sadhus' and entice passers-by by offering rice grains and Rudraksha beads as part of a supposed blessing ritual. Once the victim was in their control, they would escape with their valuables.
The gang's arrest came a day after they duped an on-duty traffic constable, Sandeep Kumar, in Mahanagar. Disguised as sadhus, the gang offered the constable a substance to smell, which allegedly transfixed him. They snatched his gold chain and escaped.
The accused were identified as Kandunath, 54, Arjun, 20, Nailunath, 40, and a 17-year-old, all residents of Punjab.
A 50-year-old man who allegedly posted objectionable materials regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi, chief minister Yogi Adityanath and Union home minister Amit Shah was arrested on Monday.
"The accused, identified as Irfan Ali, shared photos of many leaders in a deroga- tory post was on Facebook," said DCP-Crime Kamlesh Kumar Dixit. The accused was arrested and produced before a court....
