Ayodhya, Oct. 17 -- The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court on Thursday granted bail to main accused Moid Khan in the Ayodhya gang rape case of 2024, his lawyer Saeed Khan said. The alleged incident had taken place in Bhadrasa town of Ayodhya district. "Moid Khan is expected to be released from jail soon. However, a Gangsters (Act) case is still pending against him, we are waiting for the copy of the order and then we will decide our next step," Saeed Khan said. The case against Moid Khan was registered at Purakalandar police station on July 29, 2024 following the arrest of Moid Khan and his servant Raju. A bakery and a shopping complex owned by Moid Khan in Bhadrasa town of Ayodhya district were demolished by the Ayodhya administration, which alleged that he had built it on encroached government land. Moid Khan was accused of committing the crime with his employee Raju. The DNA report submitted to the Allahabad high court in October 2024, showed that the foetus's DNA matched Raju's, not Moid Khan, advocate Saeed Khan added. The case had gained widespread attention, leading to political controversy with the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party accusing the Samajwadi Party of shielding criminals.
