Lucknow, Jan. 21 -- The UP Rajya Vidyut Upbhokta Parishad has demanded subsidized electricity to the poor who have been issued free power connections under the Saubhagya scheme. In a letter to the Prime Minister, Parishad chairman Awadhesh Kumar Verma on Monday said mere free connections would not light up the poors' homes unless electricity was made available to them at an affordable price. "Power for all cannot mean power at any cost," he said adding, "The Central government must provide in the forthcoming general Budget for subsidy for the poor to lower the power tariff for them." Verma said the power tariff in UP and also in many other states was unaffordable for the poor.
