'FSSAI conducting training progs for street vendors'
Lucknow, May 6 -- The CEO of the Food Future Foundation and former CEO Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), Pawan Agrawal said that under the 'Eat Right' campaign FSSAI has been cultivating clean street vending zones and conducting massive training programmes for the street vendors.
He was speaking at a stakeholder engagement workshop on 'Food Additives Safety and Toxicity' organised of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research - Indian Institute of Toxicology Research (CSIR-IITR) on Monday. "Focused action in the direction of food safety and security can ensure clean food being delivered to the masses. Street food markets cannot be regulated but with support from authorities it can be made better," said Agrawal.
D Kanungo, RC member of IITR underscored the importance of education among street vendors. "The state government must work to educate the street vendors on the importance of providing safe-to-consume food to customers. At the same time, quality checks from time to time can also be beneficial in ensuring the food is safe for consumption," said Kanungo.
During the programme, experts talked about flavours, flavour enhancers, and fragrances to deliberate on emerging safety challenges, scientific risk assessments and regulatory frameworks concerning food additives....
