palm beach/Moscow, Dec. 29 -- Donald Trump on Sunday said he had "productive" talks with Russian leader Vladimir Putin before he met Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelensky, in a year-end sprint to seal a deal to end the war. Speaking outside his Mar-a-Lago club with Zelensky by his side, Trump said he thinks both "Ukraine and Russian presidents want to make a deal." He said he will speak to Putin again and also with other European leaders. "We're in the final stages of talks," Trump told reporters. Putin's foreign affairs adviser Yuri Ushakov, said the call was initiated by the US side, lasted over an hour, and was "friendly, benevolent, and businesslike." The Kremlin said Putin and Trump do not support a European-Ukrainian push for a temporary ceasefire ahead of a settlement, and that Moscow is of the opinion that Kyiv needs to make a decision on the contested Donbas region.
