'Faith healing fuels infertility trauma'
Lucknow, Sept. 8 -- Nearly 60% of women in Uttar Pradesh first approach faith healers instead of doctors for infertility, costing couples precious years and causing deep emotional trauma, experts said at the International Hope CME 2025 in Lucknow on Sunday.
"Infertility is not just a woman's issue. In almost 50% of cases, male factors are responsible, yet stigma keeps men from seeking diagnosis. Until we normalise conversations, couples will continue to suffer in silence," said Dr Geeta Khanna, gynaecologist and IVF expert.
Experts also flagged rising lifestyle-related infertility due to obesity, smoking, stress, late marriages, and increasing cases of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), fibroids and poor sperm quality. They noted that Lucknow now has over 60 IVF clinics, reflecting growing demand and awareness.
