LUCKNOW, Sept. 15 -- In an effort to promote early cancer detection and provide timely treatment, a team from King George's Medical University (KGMU) conducted a cancer screening camp in Patauna village, Lucknow, on Sunday. The screening was carried out using a mobile cancer unit, according to a press release issued to the media. Dr Sudhir Singh, Professor of Radiotherapy at KGMU, said that 41 individuals were screened during the camp. The mobile unit was equipped with facilities for Pap smear tests, and four women availed the test. Additionally, 16 people underwent chest X-rays, and blood tests were conducted for all screened individuals. The mobile unit also featured video screenings to spread awareness about cancer, its symptoms, and the importance of early diagnosis. The KGMU team stressed that early detection significantly improves treatment outcomes and reduces the need for long-term hospitalisation. One young man, who was screened for a suspected lipoma, expressed relief and gratitude after learning that the growth was non-cancerous. He admitted to having delayed medical consultation out of fear, the release stated.
