LUCKNOW, Jan. 2 -- A police official allegedly created a ruckus at the Hazratganj intersection where he deliberately crashed his car into police barricades and misbehaved with a senior officer a little after midnight on Thursday, officials said. He was said to be in an inebriated state all the while. "The accused, Saumya Agarwal, is a sub-inspector currently posted at the Barabanki police lines. He has been suspended," said Hazratganj ACP Vikas Jaiswal. The incident took place around 12.30 am when strict traffic diversions and barricades were in place to manage crowds and ensure smooth celebrations. According to police, Agarwal reached Hazratganj in an inebriated condition and was asked by on-duty personnel to take an alternate route due to barricading. Instead of complying, he allegedly became aggressive, abused the men in uniform and deliberately drove his car towards the barricades. The situation escalated when Agarwal tried to flee towards the Mahanagar side. Police personnel deployed ahead attempted to stop the vehicle, but he drove the car onto the barricades again. Officials said the accused continued arguing at the spot and also misbehaved with DCP (Traffic) Kamlesh Dixit. "Hazratganj police station has taken necessary legal action under Section 34 of the Police Act against the concerned police personnel. A report has also been sent to the district for departmental action..." Lucknow police said in a statement. htc...
