LUCKNOW, July 18 -- Uttar Pradesh has improved its performance across key sanitation indicators under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban), a senior official said on Thursday. In the past year, the state has increased verified door-to-door waste collection from 48% to 62%, according to state mission director, Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban), Anuj Kumar Jha. Waste processing capacity has also witnessed a major jump-from 48% to over 85%. "Uttar Pradesh has performed better than Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Telangana, Goa and other major states in terms of visible cleanliness," Jha said. He added that U.P. has exceeded national standards in nearly all cleanliness parameters, and stands at par in a few. "These improvements have been made possible under the able leadership of the chief minister, the urban development minister, the chief secretary and the principal secretary, urban development department. With this momentum, the state is poised to deliver excellent results in upcoming phases of the Swachh Bharat Mission," Jha said....
