KANPUR, May 2 -- After being denied admission to the community health centre (CHC) in Auraiya district's Bidhuna, a pregnant woman had to deliver her child near roadside on Wednesday night, alleged her family members. A video of the incident, purportedly filmed by bystanders, has since gone viral on social media, drawing sharp criticism of the state of healthcare services in the area. According to them, Rukhsar, 32, of Sahoopur village in Kotwali area, was brought to CHC Bidhuna in labour. They alleged that the CHC staff turned her away, citing anaemia as the reason for refusing admission. The attending medical personnel reportedly advised the family to take her elsewhere for delivery but did not allegedly arrange an ambulance or provide further assistance. After waiting for some time, the family said they had no choice but to move Rukhsar to a nearby road intersection near a river. There, she delivered the child with the help of other women accompanying her. When contacted, Dr VP Shakya, superintendent of CHC Bidhuna, claimed that the woman appeared anaemic and lacked valid identification which, as per the doctor, is mandatory for admission. "The staff nurse asked her to be seated while she went inside to get the medical kit. But the patient and her family left before she returned and they could not be found," he further claimed. The newborn and the mother are reported to be stable after receiving basic treatment from a private practitioner called in later. Rukhsar's family members, who work as labourers, also alleged they received no support even from private hospitals when they sought urgent care. Meanwhile, the incident has sparked outrage on social media, with many pointing to persistent mismanagement and neglect at CHC Bidhuna....
